It’s summer, and that means it’s travel season. From beaches to forests to rolling hills to resorts, RVers love to travel during the summer. But do you know what puts a huge obstacle in front of your travels?

Have you ever tried traveling with a broken A/C unit in your RV? Don’t worry, neither have we. Of course if you live in a relatively cool area, you don’t have to worry too much. But this is Texas, and there is nowhere in this state that is safe from the heat.
Your RV And Texas Heat
Texas gets hot. Really hot. If your RV’s A/C is broken or not working efficiently, your desire to travel around in your RV is severely diminished. The heat gets debilitating and makes traveling just downright miserable.
That’s just the in-motion travel part of your adventures. If you’re camping overnight with little to no A/C, you’re probably going to be sweating. Most people can’t get decent sleep when it’s too hot, so this is just going to compound your misery. At this point, you’re probably regretting not having your A/C replaced.
RV A/C Maintenance Tips
The need to replace your A/C unit in your RV is, unfortunately, inevitable. It’s not like a regular car’s A/C that lasts for numerous years. This is because in an RV, you have to cool down a much larger area. After all, it’s basically a tiny home on wheels depending on the size. Additionally, your A/C is going to be running for much longer periods of time than if you were in a car.
There are, however, many ways you can prolong the life of your RV’s A/C unit. While this won’t fully prevent you from having to eventually replace your A/C, it’ll definitely prolong the life of it and you won’t have to replace it nearly as often. Over time, this could save you thousands of dollars.
Clean and replace your filters as needed. We cannot stress enough how important it is to maintain efficient air filters for your A/C unit (this is pretty common no matter what kind of A/C it is). Over time, filters fill up with all of the junk that they are filtering out of the air. If you let this buildup continue without cleaning or replacing the filters, you’ll find that the air flow is severely affected for the A/C. This can lead to the air not being as cold, which then leads to your A/C having to work a lot harder to maintain your desired temperature.
It’s probably a good idea to get your A/C checked before and after the hot weather season. Getting it checked before the 100 degree weather hits allows you to see what condition the A/C is currently in, and whether or not you’re going to need to get some maintenance or repairs prior to traveling during the summer. Getting the A/C checked after the summer months gives you a good idea of the condition it’s in, and if you’re going to need to have any work done on the A/C.
